Traveling with an Infant? Plan ahead!
If you are planning on some baby travel anytime soon now is the time to plan ahead. It can seriously make all the difference in the world when traveling with baby. Whether you are taking a baby on a plane, train, or in an automobile, there are some things you should think about setting out on the trail. The first thing you should do is check with your pediatrician to make sure they get the green light, and then get ready for an unexpected road ahead.
Children, especially babies, can be really unpredictable at home at times, and even more so when you are on the road. Plan to take their birth certificate just in case you need to show it at all. Other things you will want to take are security items (e.g, favorite blanket, stuffed animal, etc.), plenty of clothing, toiletries and enough snacks and food supplies to hold you over until you get where you are going or can make stops for more. Try to take the same pajamas and blanket they use at home to bring some familiarity to the trip for the infant.
If you are traveling by plane make sure your baby has something to suck on (e.g., pacifier, bottle, breast if breast feeding, etc.) during take off and landing. This will help minimize the ear pressure and reduce discomfort. Take a long a bag of toys that will include little things they can play with so you can try to entertain them. One of the most important things to keep in mind is that your trip will take longer. So be sure to plan extra time to get to where you are going. Unexpected stops and slow ups will happen when traveling with an infant.
